ECKAN is the housing authority for Lyon County. The Housing Choice Voucher program provides rental assistance for qualifying low-income families, enabling them to obtain affordable, quality housing with private landlords. ECKAN has a weatherization program as well that provides energy savings measures at no cost to income qualifying individuals or families who own or rent their homes. ECKAN also provides emergency assistance for rent and utilities when funding allows.

Families then assume a 20-year, interest-free mortgage with average payments of $350 to $400 per month. Payment includes insurance and taxes, set aside in escrow. The payments on principal go toward expenses for the next house.
